Hi. I am the daughter or William O'Malley Henehan (name previously spelled Heneghan). William is the son of Michael Joseph Heneghan who immigrated from County Mayo (Castletown I think) to the New York in the 1920's with his sister Margaret (the "g" was dropped during processing through Ellis Island). Michael married Delia O'Malley and had three children - Margaret, William and Catherine (Cissy). William was born in 1932 and lives in New Jersey.

A note re spelling of the name; John's surname alternated between Henehan and Heneghan on various records , possibly because his first language was Irish, not English.

My grandmother, Catherine Heneghan/Farrell, emigrated to the U.S. in 1924. I have traced her family history back to her 3rd great-grandfather, James Henehan. My grandmother was born in Lehid, Galway. I have visited my Heneghan relatives in Ireland and have maintained limited contact. I would like to expand the Heneghan branch of my family history.

Hi, just browsing on the net and saw some questions about heneghans from Dunmore. My gran was Annie Heneghan from Bellwell sent to live with uncle in Castlerea, does that ring any bells. She was a twin of Catherine I think.

Hi David! How are all the Heneghans at this time of Spring sunshine and colour?I still have not made any connection with my deceased uncle Patrick's family who lived I thinkb near Oldham. He'd be born around 1890's either near Dunmore or in Rathlena ,Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon to John Heneghan and Margaret Donnelan He married in England.and had a family.I would love to make contact with them.Thank you for making this space available for me.I wish you and all the Heneghan Clan good health and many happy days on your journey.Bridie

My grandfather, Patrick Peter Heneghan, came from Ballyhean and settled in St Helens Merseyside. He was generally called Peter rather than Patrick. Michael Heneghan of Kinturk Ballyhean was his half brother. Two other half-brothers were James and Patrick. His first language was Gaelic, though he was fluent in English. He was a prominent parishioner of Sacred Heart St Helens. He died in 1946.

My Hene[g]han connection is JOHN J. HENE[g]HAN (1862/1867-1938). Immigrated to USA in 1883/84. He settled, raised family and died in Louisville, KY. He was born & raised in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland. Father: THOMAS HENEGHAN (?-?); Mother: SARAH SALLY PHILBIN (?-?); Siblings: JAMES HENEGHAN (1851-?), OWEN HENEGHAN (1854-?), MARTIN HENEGHAN (1856-?), SARAH HENEGHAN ROGERS MEEHAN (1859-1933), MARGARET HENEGHAN (1861-?). James and Martin served in British Army. James settled in England.

John J. Hene[g]han married CATHERINE DUDDY (1874-1966). They raised family of four daughters and one son in Louisville, KY. Only son was JOHN THOMAS HENEHAN (1905-1976). Daughters were MARY FLORENCE IRBY (1900-1983), SARAH SCHWEIKLE (1902-1986), LUCILLE HENEHAN (1911-2000), ELISE LANGFORD (1918-2004).

How great to stumble across this site. Just had a look at the coats of arms and they seemed to be HENEGHAN variants.....is there a specific one for our spelling?
For those of you attempting family trees the Irish National Archive 1911 census material is fantastic. (I expect most of you know this already.)

My Dad is from Tourmakeady, Co Mayo. Many of his cousin's moved out here, to the Chicago area as well. But there's still a majority of Heneghan's still in that area. The biggest problem is many of people from this area with the "Heneghan" name are not necessarily or extremely distantly related. The best way to figure it out is hearing if there's any nicknames on those families. Our nickname is the "Andy's" named for my great great Grand Father. I know many of the other Heneghan's in the area have nicknames as well like "vidny's" or "timmon's" or "vickileen's".

Also Tourmakeady is name for all the villages in the area. There are only like 4 or 5 house's there now. If you knew the village it would help you on your search ever more. Check out http://www.tourmakeady.ie/ it could be of help!

Good luck!
